welcome in. this is a board for fifth wheels and the trucks that pull them. travel trailers, motorhomes and vans have plenty of places to go already, so if your question is about a class c you are going to get pointed somewhere else politely.
my husband and i ran a 42 site park off highway 79 south of rapid city for sixteen years. i backed people in, i thawed their hoses in may, and i watched a lot of folks find out in my gravel lot that the truck they bought was not the truck they needed. that is most of why the hitch board exists.
three boards and what belongs in each:
- Fifth wheel talk is the trailer itself. floorplans, slide toppers, roof sealant, fridges that quit in august, auto-level throwing codes, what fits in a state park loop.
- Hitches, trucks and tires is everything between the kingpin and the pavement. bed length, payload, pin boxes, axles, brakes, ST tires, and all the arguments that come with them.
- Buying and auctions is what you paid. dealer, private sale, bank repo, sealed bid, i do not care which, but the number goes in the post.
the signature line i ask for is four facts: truck year and model, bed length, the payload number off the yellow sticker in your driver door jamb, and the trailer. those four answer about half the questions people ask here before they finish typing them.
rules, short version:
- nothing for sale. no trailers, no trucks, no hitches, not in your signature either. linking a public listing to make a point is fine.
- money threads need the number. "i got a good deal" is not a post.
- paid by a dealership, a hitch shop, a transport outfit or a broker? put that where people can see it. answering questions is welcome. pretending to be a customer gets you removed.
- be civil about brands. somebody here loves the trailer you think is junk and they are towing it 12,000 miles a year.
- i move posts to the board they belong on and i leave a note saying what moved and where it went. i do not delete things quietly.
- new accounts come by email request, for as long as the bots keep at it.
that is the whole orientation. go argue about hitches.
